Yahya Abdul-Mateen IIΒ (/ΛjΙΛhiΙ/;Β born July 15, 1986) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles asΒ Black MantaΒ in the superhero filmsΒ AquamanΒ (2018) andΒ Aquaman and the Lost KingdomΒ (2023),Β Bobby SealeΒ in theΒ Netflix historical legal dramaΒ The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), andΒ MorpheusΒ /Β Agent SmithΒ inΒ The Matrix ResurrectionsΒ (2021). For his portrayal of Cal Abar /Β Doctor ManhattanΒ in theΒ HBOΒ limited series WatchmenΒ (2019), he won aΒ Primetime Emmy Award. He also starred in episodes ofΒ The Handmaid's TaleΒ (2018) andΒ Black MirrorΒ (2019).
He made hisΒ BroadwayΒ debut in theΒ Suzan-Lori ParksΒ playΒ Topdog/Underdog,Β for which he received aΒ Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play nomination. He portrays theΒ Marvel Comics characterΒ Simon Williams / Wonder ManΒ in media set in theΒ Marvel Cinematic Universe.
