George Vincent Gilligan Jr.Β (born February 10, 1967) is an American screenwriter and filmmaker. He is best known as the creator, primary writer, executive producer, and occasional director of theΒ AMCΒ crime drama seriesΒ Breaking BadΒ (2008β2013) and its spin-off prequel seriesΒ Better Call SaulΒ (2015β2022). He also wrote, directed, and produced theΒ Breaking Bad sequel filmΒ El CaminoΒ (2019).
Gilligan's other work includes writing, directing, and producing some episodes of theΒ FoxΒ science fiction seriesΒ The X-FilesΒ (1993β2002) and co-creating its spin-off seriesΒ The Lone GunmenΒ (2001), as well as co-writing the screenplay for the superhero filmΒ HancockΒ (2008). HisΒ numerous accoladesΒ include fourΒ Primetime Emmy Awards, sixΒ Writers Guild of America Awards, twoΒ Critics' Choice Television Awards, twoΒ Producers Guild of America Awards, aΒ Directors Guild of America Award, and aΒ BAFTA Television Award.
