Mark Sinclair (born July 18, 1967), known professionally asΒ Vin Diesel, is an American actor and film producer. One of the world'sΒ highest-grossing actors, he is best known for portrayingΒ Dominic "Dom" TorettoΒ in theΒ Fast & FuriousΒ franchise.
Born inΒ California, Diesel attendedΒ Hunter CollegeΒ in New York City, where studies in creative writing led him to beginΒ screenwriting. He wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the short drama filmΒ Multi-FacialΒ (1995) and his debut feature,Β StraysΒ (1997). He came to prominence in the late 1990s. First, he gained recognition for his appearance inΒ Steven Spielberg'sΒ Saving Private RyanΒ in 1998. He followed up with commercially successful films such asΒ Boiler RoomΒ (2000) andΒ The PacifierΒ (2005). He gained stardom as a leading action star headlining numerous franchises, includingΒ Fast & Furious,Β XXX, andΒ The Chronicles of Riddick.
His voice acting work includesΒ The Iron Giant (1999), the video gamesΒ The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher BayΒ (2004) andΒ The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark AthenaΒ (2009), and the voices ofΒ Groot IΒ and Groot II in theΒ Marvel Cinematic UniverseΒ (MCU); he portrayed the characters in sixΒ superhero films, beginning withΒ Guardians of the GalaxyΒ (2014). Diesel has reprised his role as Groot for theΒ Disney+Β animated shorts seriesΒ I Am GrootΒ (2022β2023), the television specialΒ The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday SpecialΒ (2022), and the animated filmΒ Ralph Breaks the InternetΒ (2018).
He founded the production companyΒ One Race Films, where he has also served as a producer or executive producer for hisΒ star vehicles. Diesel also founded the record label Racetrack Records and video game developerΒ Tigon Studios, providing his voice andΒ motion captureΒ for all of Tigon's releases.
