Ulrich ThomsenΒ (born 6 December 1963) is a DanishΒ actorΒ andΒ filmmaker known for his role of Christian in the 1998 filmΒ The CelebrationΒ and for the role of Kai Proctor in theΒ CinemaxΒ original seriesΒ BansheeΒ (2013β2016).
Ulrich Thomsen was born in (NΓ¦sby)Β Odense,Β DenmarkΒ and graduated from theΒ Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary DanceΒ in 1993, after which he performed in several theatres inΒ Copenhagen, such as Dr Dantes Aveny, Mungo Park and Γstre GasvΓ¦rks Teater.
His film debut was in 1994 inΒ Nightwatch, directed byΒ Ole Bornedal. Since then, he has starred in several roles, including, among others,Β Thomas Vinterberg'sΒ The Biggest HeroesΒ (1996),Β Susanne Bier'sΒ SektenΒ (1997) andΒ Anders Thomas Jensen'sΒ Flickering LightsΒ (2000). The breakthrough in his career came in the 1998 film,Β Followed by an essential role in theΒ James BondΒ filmΒ The World Is Not EnoughΒ (1999) portraying the part of henchmanΒ Sasha Davidov.
This established Thomsen as an international actor, famous outside his nativeΒ Denmark. He played a part in the 2002 English filmΒ Killing Me Softly. In 2009, he played Jonas Skarssen, the lead villain inΒ Tom Tykwer'sΒ The International. From 2013 to 2016, he starred as a series regular inΒ Banshee, playing the primary antagonist, Kai Proctor. Aside from his native language, Danish, Thomsen is fluent inΒ GermanΒ andΒ English. He isΒ vegan.
