Biography

Thomas Scott NowlinΒ is an American screenwriter. He is known for writing the screenplays for the filmsΒ James Dashner'sΒ The Maze RunnerΒ film adaptation trilogyΒ (2014–2018),Β Pacific Rim UprisingΒ (2018), andΒ The Adam ProjectΒ (2022).

Nowlin went toΒ Florida State University.

Nowlin wrote his debut screenplay in 2014 for a science fiction action film, The Maze Runner, which Wes Ball directed.Β He also wrote the script for its sequel film, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, released in 2015, andΒ Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the final instalment of the trilogy.

Nowlin also co-wrote the screenplay and story for the filmΒ Pacific Rim Uprising with directorΒ Steven S. DeKnight.

In 2010, it was reported that Nowlin had written a spec scriptΒ ColumbusΒ aboutΒ Christopher Columbus, which Relativity Media boughtΒ withΒ McGΒ attached to direct the film.Β He also wrote a western thriller spec, Wild Guns, which he sold toΒ Warner Bros.Β in April 2011; Gianni NunnariΒ would produce the film through Hollywood Gang Productions.

In April 2012, it was reported thatΒ Universal PicturesΒ had bought the distribution rights toΒ Agent 13, an adaptation of the comic bookΒ Agent 13: The Midnight Avenger,Β adapted by Nowlin withΒ Charlize TheronΒ attached to star andΒ Rupert WyattΒ to direct.Β Later, in July 2012,Β 20th Century FoxΒ hired Ball and Nowlin to co-write the script of a feature live-action adaptation of Ball's animated short filmΒ Ruin,Β which Ball would also direct.Β In October 2012, Nowlin's spec script, Our Name Is Adam, was bought by producerΒ Mary Parent and attachedΒ Tom CruiseΒ to play the lead role.Β The film was later renamedΒ The Adam ProjectΒ and hasΒ Ryan ReynoldsΒ co-starring withΒ Jennifer Garner, released on March 11, 2022.
