Tang WeiΒ (simplified Chinese:Β ζ±€ε―;Β traditional Chinese:Β ζΉ―ε―;Β pinyin:Β TΔng WΓ©i;Β Korean:Β νμ¨μ΄; born 7 October 1979) is a Chinese actress. She rose to international fame for her role inΒ Golden Lion-winningΒ Lust, CautionΒ (2007) byΒ Ang Lee, for which she was banned by the Chinese government due to the explicit sexual nature of her performance, until her comeback inΒ Crossing HennessyΒ in 2010. She gained further acclaim for her performances inΒ Late AutumnΒ (2010),Β Finding Mr. RightΒ (2013),Β The Golden EraΒ (2014),Β Long Day's Journey into NightΒ (2018),Β Decision to Leave (2022), andΒ WonderlandΒ (2024).
Tang is the first and only non-Korean to be honoured as the Best Actress at theΒ Baeksang Arts Awards (twice),Β Blue Dragon Film Awards,Β Chunsa Film Art AwardsΒ andΒ Buil Film Awards. She is also the first Asian actor to have won theΒ TrophΓ©e Chopard, which she received at theΒ 2008 Cannes Film Festival. Tang ranked 72nd on theΒ ForbesΒ China Celebrity 100Β list in 2008, 70th in 2013,Β 38th in 2014, and 55th in 2015.
