Liu was born inΒ Harbin, China, and raised inΒ Mississauga, Ontario. He has also played Paul Xie in theΒ Omni TelevisionΒ crime drama seriesΒ Blood and Waterβfor which he was nominated for aΒ Canadian Screen AwardΒ and anΒ ACTRA AwardβJung Kim in theΒ CBC TelevisionΒ sitcomΒ Kim's ConvenienceΒ (2016β2021),Β and one of theΒ Ken dollsΒ in the fantasy comedy filmΒ Barbie (2023).Β In 2022, Liu published the memoirΒ We Were DreamersΒ and was named one ofΒ Time magazine'sΒ 100 most influential people in the world.
