Sandra Miju OhΒ OCΒ (born July 20, 1971) is a Canadian and American actress. She is known for her starring roles as Rita Wu in theΒ HBOΒ comedy seriesΒ ArlissΒ (1996β2002),Β Dr. Cristina YangΒ in theΒ ABCΒ medical drama seriesΒ Grey's AnatomyΒ (2005β2014), andΒ Eve PolastriΒ in theΒ BBC AmericaΒ spy thriller seriesΒ Killing EveΒ (2018β2022). She has received oneΒ Primetime Emmy AwardΒ from fourteen nominations, twoΒ Golden Globe AwardsΒ and fourΒ Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2019,Β TimeΒ magazine named Oh one of theΒ 100 most influential people in the world.
Oh first gained recognition for her roles in the Canadian filmsΒ Double HappinessΒ (1994) andΒ The Diary of Evelyn LauΒ (1994), where she wonΒ Genie AwardsΒ for both films. Her later television credits includeΒ Judging AmyΒ andΒ American Crime, as well as voice roles onΒ American Dad!,Β American Dragon: Jake Long,Β The Proud Family,Β Phineas and Ferb,Β Chop Socky Chooks,Β She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, andΒ Invincible. In 2021, she played the lead role in theΒ NetflixΒ comedy-drama seriesΒ The Chair. She was also one of the executive producers of the series.Β
She has had notable leading performances in films such asΒ Last NightΒ (1998),Β Long Life, Happiness & ProsperityΒ (2002),Β Wilby WonderfulΒ (2004),Β CatfightΒ (2016),Β Meditation ParkΒ (2017), andΒ Quiz LadyΒ (2023). She hosted theΒ 28th Genie AwardsΒ in 2008. She became the first woman of Asian descent to host theΒ Golden Globe AwardsΒ at theΒ 76th ceremony in 2019. In March 2019, she became the first Asian-Canadian woman to hostΒ Saturday Night Live. She was the third actress of Asian descent to do so, afterΒ Lucy LiuΒ in 2000 andΒ AwkwafinaΒ in 2018. She was also the first actress of Asian descent to be nominated for theΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama SeriesΒ and the first woman of Asian descent to win two Golden Globes.
