Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (born 22 December 1962) is an English actor, film producer, and director. He has receivedΒ various accolades, including aΒ British Academy Film AwardΒ and aΒ Tony Award, as well as nominations for threeΒ Academy Awards, sevenΒ Golden Globe Awards, and aΒ Primetime Emmy Award.
Born inΒ Ipswich, Suffolk, Fiennes was trained at and graduated from theΒ Royal Academy of Dramatic ArtΒ in 1985. AΒ ShakespeareΒ interpreter, he excelled onstage at theΒ Royal National Theatre before succeeding at theΒ Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1995, Fiennes made hisΒ BroadwayΒ debut playingΒ Prince HamletΒ in the revival of theΒ William ShakespeareΒ playΒ Hamlet, for which he won theΒ Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. He was later Tony-nominated for his role as a travellingΒ faith healerΒ in theΒ Brian FrielΒ playΒ Faith HealerΒ (2006).
Fiennes made his film debut playingΒ HeathcliffΒ inΒ Emily BrontΓ«'s Wuthering HeightsΒ (1992). He has earned threeΒ Academy AwardΒ nominations for his performances in the filmsΒ Schindler's ListΒ (1993),Β The English PatientΒ (1996), andΒ ConclaveΒ (2024). Fiennes gained wider recognition for playingΒ Lord VoldemortΒ in theΒ Harry PotterΒ film seriesΒ (2005β2011) andΒ Gareth Mallory / MΒ in theΒ James Bond films (2012β2021); and has voiced roles in the animated filmsΒ The Prince of EgyptΒ (1998),Β Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005),Β Kubo and the Two StringsΒ (2016), andΒ The Lego Batman MovieΒ (2017).
