Quinta BrunsonΒ (/ΛkwΙͺntΙ/; born December 21, 1989)Β is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for creating, executive producing, co-writing and starring as second-grade teacherΒ Janine TeaguesΒ in theΒ ABC comedy seriesΒ Abbott ElementaryΒ (2021βpresent). Brunson gained prominence for her self-producedΒ InstagramΒ seriesΒ Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. She went on to produce and act in videos forΒ BuzzFeed Video. She developed two streaming series withΒ BuzzFeed Motion Pictures.
At theΒ 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, she became the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy category,Β receiving nominations forΒ Outstanding Writing for a Comedy SeriesΒ (which she won),Β Outstanding Comedy SeriesΒ (as an executive producer), andΒ Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. At theΒ 75thΒ ceremony, she became the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy in over 40 years. Brunson was honoured with a 2022Β Peabody Award for her work onΒ Abbott Elementary. She was also placed on theΒ TimeΒ 100Β Most Influential People of 2022 list.
Brunson has acted in the seriesΒ iZombie,Β Single Parents, andΒ Miracle Workers; provided voice work forΒ Lazor WulfΒ andΒ Magical Girl Friendship Squad; and starred in the first season of theΒ HBOΒ sketch comedy seriesΒ A Black Lady Sketch Show.
