Priyamani (born Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer) is an Indian actress and former model who works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. Born on June 4, 1984, in Bangalore, Karnataka, into a Tamil-speaking Iyer family hailing from Palakkad, Kerala, to Vasudev Mani Iyer and former national badminton player Latha Mani, she is the first cousin of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan and granddaughter of Carnatic vocalist Kamala Kailas. She completed her schooling at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College while actively modeling for print campaigns. She made her acting debut in the Telugu romantic drama *Evare Atagaadu* (2003), followed by her Tamil debut in Bharathiraja's *Kangalal Kaidhu Sei* (2004) and her Malayalam debut in *Sathyam* (2004).
Priyamani achieved monumental critical acclaim and pan-Indian stardom with Ameer Sultan's Tamil romantic rural drama *Paruthiveeran* (2007). Her raw, fierce, and emotionally devastating performance as Muthazhagu won her the National Film Award for Best Actress, the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil, and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Over a versatile career spanning more than two decades, she established herself as one of South Indian cinema's finest performers across all four regional industries. Her notable films include S. S. Rajamouli's fantasy blockbuster *Yamadonga* (2007) opposite Jr. NTR, the Malayalam drama *Thirakkatha* (2008) which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Malayalam, the Kannada hit *Raam* (2009), Ranjith's satire *Pranchiyettan and the Saint* (2010) with Mammootty, Mani Ratnam's bilingual epics *Raavanan* / *Raavan* (2010), Ram Gopal Varma's *Rakht Charitra II* (2010), and the horror thriller *Chaarulatha* (2012), for which her dual role won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada. She also made a celebrated dance appearance alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the song "1-2-3-4 Get on the Dance Floor" in *Chennai Express* (2013) and starred in Prakash Raj's bilingual *Idolle Ramayana* / *Mana Oori Ramayanam* (2016).
She witnessed a massive career resurgence across streaming platforms and mainstream cinema, earning widespread praise for her portrayal of Suchitra Tiwari in Raj & DK’s Amazon Prime Video spy thriller series *The Family Man* (2019–present). She continued delivering impactful performances in Srikanth Addala's *Naarappa* (2021), Venu Udugula's *Virata Parvam* (2022), Aha's dark comedy thriller franchise *Bhamakalapam* (2022) and *Bhamakalapam 2* (2024), Jeethu Joseph's courtroom drama *Neru* (2023) opposite Mohanlal, and Atlee's pan-Indian action blockbuster *Jawan* (2023) alongside Shah Rukh Khan. In 2024, she earned strong critical acclaim for her key roles in Aditya Suhas Jambhale's political thriller *Article 370* opposite Yami Gautam and Amit Sharma's sports biographical drama *Maidaan* alongside Ajay Devgn.
