Phillip Roger NoyceΒ AOΒ (born 29 April 1950) is an Australian film and television director. Since 1977, he has directed over 19 feature films in various genres, including historical drama (Newsfront,Β Rabbit-Proof Fence,Β The Quiet American); thrillers (Dead Calm,Β Sliver,Β The Bone Collector); and action films (Blind Fury,Β The Saint,Β Salt). He has also directed theΒ Jack Ryan adaptations Patriot GamesΒ (1992) andΒ Clear and Present DangerΒ (1994), as well as theΒ 2014 adaptationΒ ofΒ Lois Lowry'sΒ The Giver.
Noyce has worked with various actors, includingΒ Val Kilmer,Β Harrison Ford,Β Denzel Washington,Β Michael Caine,Β Angelina Jolie,Β Nicole Kidman,Β Meryl Streep,Β and Rutger Hauer, as well as three films featuringΒ Thora Birch, spanning over 25 years. He has also directed, written and executive-produced television programmes in both Australia and North America, includingΒ The Cowra Breakout,Β Vietnam,Β Revenge,Β Roots, andΒ Netflix'sΒ What/If.
Noyce's work has won him several accolades, includingΒ AACTA AwardsΒ for Best Film, Best Director and a specialΒ Longford LyellΒ lifetime achievement award.
