Dame Penelope Alice WiltonΒ DBE (born 3 June 1946) is an English actress. She was formerly married to fellow actorΒ Sir Ian Holm, and as she has not remarried, she retains her married style ofΒ Lady Holm.
Wilton is known for starring oppositeΒ Richard BriersΒ in theΒ BBCΒ sitcomΒ Ever Decreasing CirclesΒ (1984β1989), playing Homily inΒ The BorrowersΒ (1992) andΒ The Return of the Borrowers(1993), and for her role as the widowed Isobel Crawley in theΒ ITVΒ dramaΒ Downton AbbeyΒ (2010β2015). She also played the recurring role ofΒ Harriet JonesΒ inΒ Doctor WhoΒ (2005β2008) and Anne inΒ Ricky Gervais'Β NetflixΒ dark comedyΒ After Life.Β
Wilton has had an extensive career on stage, receiving sixΒ Olivier Award nominations.
