Cruz made her television acting debut at age 16, and her feature film debut the following year inΒ JamΓ³n JamΓ³nΒ (1992). Her subsequent roles includedΒ Belle ΓpoqueΒ (1992),Β Open Your Eyes (1997),Β Don JuanΒ (1998),Β The Hi-Lo Country (1999),Β The Girl of Your DreamsΒ (2000) andΒ Woman on TopΒ (2000). She volunteered in Uganda and India, where she spent one week working withΒ Mother Teresa, and donated her salary fromΒ The Hi-Lo CountryΒ to help fund the now-deceased nun's mission.
