Paul Colm Michael MescalΒ (/ΛmΙskΙl/Β MESS-kΙl;Β born 2 February 1996) is an Irish actor.Β His accoladesΒ include twoΒ BAFTA AwardsΒ and aΒ Laurence Olivier Award, in addition to nominations for anΒ Academy Award, aΒ Primetime Emmy Award, and aΒ Golden Globe Award.
Born inΒ DublinΒ and raised inΒ Maynooth, he studied acting atΒ The Lir AcademyΒ and then performed in plays inΒ DublinΒ theatres. Mescal's breakthrough came with a leading role in theΒ BBCΒ /Β HuluΒ romantic dramaΒ miniseriesΒ Normal PeopleΒ (2020), earning him theΒ British Academy Television Award for Best ActorΒ and a nomination for theΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Mescal transitioned to film acting with his debut in the psychological dramaΒ The Lost DaughterΒ (2021). For his performance as a troubled father in theΒ coming-of-ageΒ dramaΒ AftersunΒ (2022), he received a nomination for theΒ Β Academy Award for Best Actor.
