He became famous for his role as Luis Rivera in theΒ NBCΒ sitcomΒ Suddenly Susan. He is known for his roles asΒ Richard AlpertΒ in theΒ ABCΒ drama seriesΒ Lost, Sheriff Alex Romero in theΒ A&EΒ drama seriesΒ Bates Motel, and Yanko Flores in theΒ Apple TV+Β drama seriesΒ The Morning Show. Carbonell starred as Mayor Anthony Garcia inΒ Christopher Nolan's superhero filmsΒ The Dark KnightΒ (2008) andΒ The Dark Knight RisesΒ (2012). He won the 2024Β Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama SeriesΒ for his role in the FX seriesΒ ShΕgun.
