Michael Craig JudgeΒ (born October 17, 1962) is an American actor, animator, writer, producer, and director.Β He is best known for creating the animated television seriesΒ Beavis and Butt-HeadΒ (1993β1997, 2011, 2022βpresent). He also co-created the television seriesΒ King of the HillΒ (1997β2010, 2025-present),Β The Goode FamilyΒ (2009),Β Silicon ValleyΒ (2014β2019),Β Common Side EffectsΒ (2025- ), andΒ Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour BusΒ (2017β2018). He wrote and directed the filmsΒ Beavis and Butt-Head Do AmericaΒ (1996),Β Office SpaceΒ (1999),Β IdiocracyΒ (2006), andΒ ExtractΒ (2009), and co-wrote the screenplay toΒ Beavis and Butt-Head Do the UniverseΒ (2022).
Judge was born inΒ Guayaquil,Β Ecuador, and raised inΒ Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from theΒ University of California, San Diego, where he studied physics.Β After losing interest in a career in science, Judge focused on animation and short films. His animated shortΒ Frog Baseball was developed into the successfulΒ MTVΒ seriesΒ Beavis and Butt-Head and the spin-off seriesΒ DariaΒ (with which Judge had no involvement).
In 1995, Judge and formerΒ SimpsonsΒ writerΒ Greg DanielsΒ developedΒ King of the Hill, which debuted onΒ FoxΒ in 1997 and quickly became popular with critics and audiences. It ran for 13 seasons and became one of theΒ longest-running American animated series. During the show run, Judge took time off to write and directΒ Office Space,Β IdiocracyΒ andΒ Extract. AsΒ King of the HillΒ ended, Judge created his third show,Β ABC'sΒ The Goode Family, which received mixed reviews and was cancelled after 13 episodes. After a four-year hiatus, he created his fourth show, the live-actionΒ Silicon ValleyΒ forΒ HBO, which has received critical acclaim.Β In 2017, Judge's fourth animated series, the music-themedΒ Tales from the Tour Bus, premiered onΒ Cinemax to acclaim.
Judge has won aΒ Primetime Emmy Award, twoΒ Annie AwardsΒ forΒ King of the Hill, twoΒ Critics' Choice Television Awards, andΒ two Satellite AwardsΒ forΒ Silicon Valley.
