Michael Benjamin BayΒ (born February 17, 1965)Β is an American film director and producer. He is best known for making big-budget,Β high-conceptΒ action films withΒ fast cutting, stylisticΒ cinematographyΒ and visuals, and extensive use ofΒ special effects, including frequent depictions of explosions. The films he has directed includeΒ Bad BoysΒ (1995) and its sequelΒ Bad Boys II (2003), The RockΒ (1996),Β ArmageddonΒ (1998),Β Pearl HarborΒ (2001), the first five films in theΒ TransformersΒ film series,Β 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of BenghaziΒ (2016),Β 6 Underground (2019), andΒ AmbulanceΒ (2022). His films have grossed overΒ US$7.8 billionΒ worldwide, making him one of history's mostΒ commercially successful directors.
He is co-founder of the production houseΒ the Institute and co-ownsΒ Platinum Dunes, a production house that has remadeΒ horror films, includingΒ The Texas Chainsaw MassacreΒ (2003),Β The Amityville HorrorΒ (2005),Β The HitcherΒ (2007),Β Friday the 13thΒ (2009), andΒ A Nightmare on Elm StreetΒ (2010).
