Matthew William GoodeΒ (born 3 April 1978) is an English actor.Β He made his screen debut in 2002 withΒ ABC's television filmΒ Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. His breakthrough role was in the romantic comedyΒ Chasing LibertyΒ (2004), for which he received a nomination at theΒ Teen Choice AwardsΒ for Choice Breakout Movie Star β Male. He then appeared in a string of supporting roles in films, such asΒ Woody Allen'sΒ Match PointΒ (2005), the romantic comedyΒ Imagine Me and YouΒ (2006), and the period dramaΒ Copying BeethovenΒ (2006). He earned praise for his performances as Charles Ryder in theΒ 2008 film adaptationΒ of the novelΒ Brideshead RevisitedΒ and asΒ OzymandiasΒ in the superhero filmΒ WatchmenΒ (2009). He then starred in the romantic comedyΒ Leap YearΒ (2010) and the Australian dramaΒ Burning ManΒ (2011), the latter earning him nominations for Best Actor at both theΒ Film Critics Circle of Australia AwardsΒ and theΒ AACTA Awards.Β
