Lin-Manuel MirandaΒ (/mΓ¦nΛwΙl/; born January 16, 1980)Β is an American songwriter, actor, singer, filmmaker, rapper, andΒ librettist. Miranda made his Broadway debut in 2008, writing the music and lyrics for and starring in the musicalΒ In the Heights, which won theΒ Tony Award forΒ Best MusicalΒ andΒ Best Original Score and theΒ Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.Β It was later adapted as aΒ 2021 filmΒ of the same name. Miranda returned to Broadway in 2015, writing the script, music, and lyrics and starring in the musicalΒ Hamilton, which was praised by critics and became aΒ widespread cultural phenomenon.Β HamiltonΒ won theΒ Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for a record 16Β TonysΒ and 11, including Miranda's first win for Β Best Book of a Musical. A frequent collaborator ofΒ the Walt Disney Company, Miranda has written original songs for the studio. He won twoΒ OscarΒ nominations for "How Far I'll Go" & "Dos Oruguitas" fromΒ Moana andΒ Encanto. Encanto's song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" Β broke various records. It marked Miranda's first number-one song on the USΒ BillboardΒ Hot 100Β and theΒ UK SinglesΒ charts.Β He starred as Jack in the musical fantasyΒ Mary Poppins ReturnsΒ (2018), for which he was nominated for aΒ Golden Globe. For his performance in theΒ Disney+Β live stage recording ofΒ Hamilton, which was released in 2020, he received a Golden Globe &Β Primetime Emmy nomination. His television work includes recurring roles onΒ The Electric CompanyΒ (2009β2010) andΒ His Dark MaterialsΒ (2019β2022). Miranda hostedΒ Saturday Night LiveΒ in 2016, & and had a guest role onΒ Curb Your EnthusiasmΒ in 2018; he was nominated twice for theΒ Primetime Emmy. He has been politically active on behalf ofΒ Puerto Rico.Β Miranda met with politicians in 2016 to speak out in favour ofΒ debt relief for Puerto RicoΒ & raised funds for rescue efforts and disaster relief afterΒ Hurricane MariaΒ in 2017.
