Kevin WillmottΒ (born August 31, 1959)Β is an Academy Award-winning American film director and screenwriter. He is known for work focusing on black issues, including writing and directingΒ Ninth Street, C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America,Β andΒ Bunker Hill.
HisΒ The Only Good IndianΒ (2009) was a feature film about Native American children at anΒ Indian boarding schoolΒ and the forced assimilation that took place. InΒ JayhawkersΒ (2014), he followed the life ofΒ Wilt Chamberlain,Β Phog AllenΒ and the 1956Β Kansas Jayhawks basketballΒ team. Willmott has collaborated withΒ Spike Lee, with whom he shared anΒ Academy Award for Best Adapted ScreenplayΒ forΒ BlacKkKlansman. The two again collaborated in writingΒ Da 5 Bloods, released worldwide digitally on June 12, 2020.
Wilmott is a professor of film at theΒ University of Kansas.
