Matthew Kazuo FirpoΒ is an American film director, screenwriter, and photographer. Along with his cousin, Ryan, he wrote the story for theΒ Marvel Cinematic UniverseΒ filmΒ Eternals. His debut documentary, Refuge,Β won Best Documentary at theΒ Santa Barbara International Film Festival and had its world premiere atΒ SXSW.
He graduated in 2012 from theΒ New York University Tisch School of the ArtsΒ undergraduate program. At the age of 25, Firpo was named one of Β Forbes'Β 30 Under 30Β in 2016.Β His debut screenplayΒ Ruintopped Hollywood's 2017Β Black List.Β Until 2020, he was known professionally as Matt Firpo; he changed his public name to Kaz Firpo (based on his middle name) before the release ofΒ Eternals.
