Mary Kathleen Turner (born June 19, 1954) is an American actress. Known for her distinctive deep, husky voice,Β she receives twoΒ Golden Globes and nominations for anΒ Academy Award, aΒ Grammy, and twoΒ Tony Awards.
After debuting bothΒ offΒ and onΒ BroadwayΒ in 1977, followed by her television debut as Nola Dancy Aldrich on theΒ NBCΒ soap operaΒ The Doctors (1978β1979), Turner rose to prominence with her portrayal of Matty Walker inΒ Body HeatΒ (1981), which brought her a reputation as aΒ sex symbol. She worked solidly throughout the 1980s in films such asΒ The Man with Two BrainsΒ (1983),Β Crimes of Passion,Β Romancing the StoneΒ (both 1984),Β Prizzi's Honor,Β The Jewel of the NileΒ (both 1985),Β Switching Channels,Β The Accidental TouristΒ (both 1988), andΒ The War of the Roses (1989). For her portrayal of the title character inΒ Peggy Sue Got MarriedΒ (1986), Turner was nominated for the 1987Β Academy Award for Best Actress. Subsequent credits includeΒ V.I. She also playedΒ Charles Bing, theΒ drag queenΒ father ofΒ Chandler Bing, on theΒ seventh seasonΒ ofΒ FriendsΒ (2001). Turner's voice work includesΒ Jessica RabbitΒ inΒ Who Framed Roger RabbitΒ (1988) and Constance inΒ Monster HouseΒ (2006), as well as characters on television series such asΒ The Simpsons,Β Family Guy,Β King of the Hill, andΒ Rick and Morty.
