Kasi LemmonsΒ (/ΛkeΙͺsi/;Β bornΒ Karen Diane Lemmons, February 24, 1959) is an American film director, screenwriter, and actress. She made her directorial debut withΒ Eve's BayouΒ (1997), followed byΒ The Caveman's ValentineΒ (2001),Β Talk to MeΒ (2007),Β Black NativityΒ (2013),Β HarrietΒ (2019), andΒ Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with SomebodyΒ (2022).Β She also directed theΒ Netflix limited seriesΒ Self MadeΒ (2020) and an episode ofΒ ABC'sΒ Women of the MovementΒ (2022).
She is also known as an actress, having started her career with roles in commercials withΒ McDonald'sΒ andΒ Levi's. She made her film debut inΒ Spike Lee'sΒ School DazeΒ (1988). She continued acting inΒ Vampire's KissΒ (1989),Β The Silence of the LambsΒ (1991), andΒ Candyman (1992). Film scholarΒ Wheeler Winston Dixon described herΒ as "an ongoing testament to the creative possibilities of film".
