Jonathan Edward BernthalΒ (/ΛbΙΛrnΞΈΙΛl/; born September 20, 1976) is an American actor. He came to prominence for portrayingΒ Shane WalshΒ on theΒ AMCΒ horror drama seriesΒ The Walking DeadΒ (2010β2012; 2018), where he was a starring cast member in the first two seasons. Bernthal achieved further recognition asΒ Frank Castle/The PunisherΒ in theΒ Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in theΒ second seasonΒ ofΒ DaredevilΒ (2016), theΒ spin-offΒ seriesΒ The PunisherΒ (2017β2019), and theΒ revivalΒ seriesΒ Daredevil: Born AgainΒ (2025βpresent), and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). For his recurring guest role as restaurant owner Michael Berzatto in the seriesΒ The BearΒ (2022βpresent), he won aΒ Primetime Emmy Award.Β
