A native ofΒ South Los Angeles, many of his films consider the implications of inner-city violence like the critically acclaimed and popularΒ Boyz n the Hood,Β Poetic Justice,Β Higher LearningΒ andΒ Baby Boy. He later branched out into mainstream territory with the blockbusterΒ 2 Fast 2 FuriousΒ andΒ Four Brothers.
