John Robert HoffmanΒ is an American actor, screenwriter, director and producer. He wrote and co-starred in theΒ Disney ChannelΒ original filmΒ Northern LightsΒ (1997).
Hoffman made his theatrical film debut (as both writer and director) with theΒ MGM/Jim Henson PicturesΒ comedyΒ Good Boy!Β (2003), which opened at No. 3 at the U.S. box office and grossed $45.3 million worldwide on an $18 million budget.Β He was nominated for aΒ Primetime Emmy AwardΒ as part of the writing team for theΒ 81st Academy AwardsΒ (2009). As a writer and producer, Hoffman has also contributed to theΒ HBOΒ seriesΒ LookingΒ (2014β2015) and theΒ NetflixΒ seriesΒ Grace and FrankieΒ (2016β2022).Β In 2021, Hoffman co-created the hitΒ HuluΒ original seriesΒ Only Murders in the BuildingΒ withΒ Steve Martin.
Hoffman played theΒ Mad HatterΒ in Disney'sΒ Adventures in WonderlandΒ (1992β1995).
