John Christopher ReillyΒ (born May 24, 1965)Β is an American actor. He is known for hisΒ character acting, taking on leading and supporting roles in independent drama films and studio comedies. He gained exposure through his supporting roles inΒ Tony Scott'sΒ Days of ThunderΒ (1990),Β Paul Thomas Anderson's filmsΒ Hard EightΒ (1996),Β Boogie NightsΒ (1997) andΒ MagnoliaΒ (1999), andΒ Martin Scorsese'sΒ Gangs of New YorkΒ (2002) andΒ The AviatorΒ (2004). Reilly was nominated for theΒ Academy Award for Best Supporting ActorΒ and theΒ corresponding Golden Globe AwardΒ for his role in the musical filmΒ ChicagoΒ (2002). Reilly's other notable films includeΒ The River WildΒ (1994),Β The Thin Red LineΒ (1998), andΒ The HoursΒ (2002).
Reilly gained prominence for his roles in comedy films such as Cal Naughton inΒ Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky BobbyΒ (2006). He then went on to play the title character inΒ Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox StoryΒ (2007) and Dale Doback, one of the two stepbrothers, inΒ Step BrothersΒ (2008).
