Joel Daniel CoenΒ (born November 29, 1954) is an American filmmaker, working with his brother, Ethan Coen, together known as theΒ Coen brothers(/ΛkoΚΙn/).Β Their filmsΒ span many genres and styles, which they frequently subvert or parody.Β Among their most acclaimed works areΒ Blood SimpleΒ (1984),Β Raising ArizonaΒ (1987),Β Miller's CrossingΒ (1990),Β Barton FinkΒ (1991),Β FargoΒ (1996),Β The Big LebowskiΒ (1998),Β O Brother, Where Art Thou? The brothers generally write, direct and produce their films jointly. The duo started directing separately in the 2020s, resulting in Joel'sΒ The Tragedy of MacbethΒ (2021), Ethan'sΒ Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in MindΒ (2022) andΒ Drive-Away DollsΒ (2024).
