Jennifer Jason LeighΒ (bornΒ Jennifer Leigh Morrow; February 5, 1962) is an American actress. She began her career on television during the 1970s before making her film breakthrough in the teen filmΒ Fast Times at Ridgemont HighΒ (1982). She received critical praise for her performances inΒ Last Exit to BrooklynΒ (1989),Β Miami BluesΒ (1990),Β Backdraft (1991),Β Single White FemaleΒ (1992), andΒ The Hudsucker ProxyΒ (1994). She was nominated for aΒ Golden GlobeΒ for her portrayal ofΒ Dorothy ParkerΒ inΒ Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994).
Leigh starred in a 1995 film written by her mother, screenwriterΒ Barbara Turner, titledΒ Georgia. She co-wrote and co-directed a film withΒ Alan CummingΒ titledΒ The Anniversary PartyΒ (2001). Leigh starred in the crime dramaΒ Road to PerditionΒ (2002) and the family dramaΒ Margot at the WeddingΒ (2007). She had a recurring role on theΒ ShowtimeΒ comedy-drama seriesΒ Weeds (2009β2012). She received critical acclaim for her voice work inΒ Charlie Kaufman'sΒ Anomalisa (2015). For her role as fugitive Daisy Domergue inΒ The Hateful EightΒ (2015), she was nominated for theΒ Golden GlobeΒ andΒ Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. From 2017 to 2021, she starred in theΒ NetflixΒ comedy-drama seriesΒ Atypical while featuring in the science fiction filmsΒ AnnihilationΒ (2018) andΒ PossessorΒ (2020). She has since starred in theΒ fifth seasonΒ of the crime drama seriesΒ FargoΒ (2023).
For her stage work, Leigh was nominated for aΒ Drama DeskΒ award for herΒ off-Broadway performance as Beverly Moss inΒ Mike Leigh'sΒ Abigail's Party. HerΒ BroadwayΒ debut occurred in 1998 when she became the replacement for the role ofΒ Sally BowlesΒ in the musicalΒ Cabaret.
