James Peter Maxwell DornanΒ (/ΛdΚeΙͺmiΒ ΛdΙΛrnΙn/; born 1 May 1982) is an actor, model, and musician fromΒ Northern Ireland. His accolades include twoΒ Irish Film and Television Awards, in addition to nominations for aΒ BAFTA Television AwardΒ and aΒ Golden Globe Award. He has been ranked as one of the "25 Biggest Male Models of All Time" byΒ Vogue, as well as named one of Ireland's greatest film actors byΒ The Irish Times.
Dornan began his career as a model, appearing in campaigns forΒ Hugo Boss,Β Dior Homme, andΒ Calvin Klein. He transitioned to acting with a role inΒ Sofia Coppola's drama filmΒ Marie Antoinette(2006). His breakthrough came asΒ the Huntsman / Sheriff Graham HumbertΒ in the fantasy seriesΒ Once Upon a TimeΒ (2011β2013) and as serial killerΒ Paul SpectorΒ in the crime drama seriesΒ The Fall(2013β2016); the latter earned him critical praise and a nomination for theΒ British Academy Television Award for Best Actor.Β
Dornan achieved wider recognition for portrayingΒ Christian GreyΒ in theΒ Fifty ShadesΒ franchise(2015β2018), which collectively grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide.
