James Allen MangoldΒ (born December 16, 1963) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. Noted for his versatility in tackling a range of genres, Mangold made his debut as a film director withΒ HeavyΒ (1995) and gained recognition for the filmsΒ Cop LandΒ (1997),Β Girl, InterruptedΒ (1999),Β IdentityΒ (2003),Β Walk the Line (2005),Β 3:10 to YumaΒ (2007), and two films in theΒ X-MenΒ franchiseΒ withΒ The WolverineΒ (2013) andΒ LoganΒ (2017), the latter of which earned him a nomination for theΒ Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

He then directed the sports drama filmΒ Ford v FerrariΒ (2019), which earned him a nomination for theΒ Academy Award for Best Picture, and directed and co-wroteΒ Indiana Jones and the Dial of DestinyΒ (2023), the fifth and final instalment in theΒ Indiana JonesΒ series. For theΒ Bob DylanΒ biopicΒ A Complete UnknownΒ (2024), Mangold was once again nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay and his first nomination forΒ Best Director.
