Harley JessupΒ (born 1954) is an American production designer and visual effects art director nominated for two Visual Effects Academy Awards, winning once. AtΒ Pixar Animation Studios, Jessup has been a production designer forΒ Monsters, Inc.(with Bob Pauley),Β Ratatouille,Β Cars 2,Β Presto,Β The Good DinosaurΒ and Pixar's animated feature,Β Coco. Before coming to Pixar, Jessup was a production designer onΒ Walt Disney Pictures'Β James and the Giant Peach.
Jessup was a visual effects art director atΒ Industrial Light & MagicΒ from 1987 to 1994 and served as the ILM art department creative director from 1991 to 1994. His visual effects art direction credits includeΒ Innerspace(for which he won an Academy Award),Β HookΒ (nominated for an Academy Award),Β The Hunt for Red OctoberΒ (with Steve Beck),Β Ghostbusters II,Β Joe Versus the Volcano, andΒ Fire in the Sky.
In 1985, Jessup won an Emmy Award for best visual effects forΒ The Ewok Adventure, produced byΒ Lucasfilm, Ltd.Β forΒ ABC Television.
Harley Jessup began his career at Korty Films, designing animated short films forΒ Sesame Street, includingΒ The Adventures of Thelma Thumb. He served as art director onΒ John Korty's animated featureΒ Twice Upon a Time.
Jessup has written and illustrated three children's books,Β What Alice Up to?Β andΒ Grandma SummerΒ for Viking Children's Books andΒ Welcome to MonstropolisΒ for Disney/Egmont. He studied graphic design atΒ Oregon State UniversityΒ (BFA) andΒ Stanford UniversityΒ (MFA).
