Halle Maria BerryΒ (/ΛhΓ¦li/Β HAL-ee; bornΒ Maria Halle Berry; August 14, 1966) is an American actress. She began her career as a model and entered several beauty contests, becomingΒ Miss OhioΒ in 1986, finishing as the first runner-up in theΒ Miss USAΒ pageant of 1986, and placing sixth inΒ Miss World 1986. Her breakthrough film role was in the romantic comedyΒ BoomerangΒ (1992), alongsideΒ Eddie Murphy, which led to roles inΒ The FlintstonesΒ (1994) andΒ BulworthΒ (1998), as well as the television filmΒ Introducing Dorothy DandridgeΒ (1999), for which she won aΒ Primetime Emmy Award and aΒ Golden Globe Award.
Berry established herself as one of the highest-paid actresses inΒ HollywoodΒ during the 2000s. For her performance as a struggling widow in the romantic dramaΒ Monster's Ball (2001), Berry became the only African-American woman to win theΒ Academy Award for Best Actress, and the firstΒ woman of colour. Berry took on high-profile roles such asΒ StormΒ in four instalments of theΒ X-MenΒ film seriesΒ (2000β2014), the henchwoman of a robber in the thrillerΒ SwordfishΒ (2001),Β Bond girlΒ JinxΒ inΒ Die Another DayΒ (2002), a psychiatrist inΒ GothikaΒ (2003), and the title role in the much-deridedΒ CatwomanΒ (2004).

Berry launched a production company,Β 606 Films, in 2014 and has been involved in the production of several projects in which she has performed, including theΒ CBSΒ science fiction seriesΒ ExtantΒ (2014β2015). Berry has been aΒ RevlonΒ spokesmodel since 1996. She was formerly married to baseball playerΒ David Justice, singer-songwriterΒ Eric BenΓ©t, and actorΒ Olivier Martinez. Berry has two children. She shares her first child with her former partner, model Gabriel Aubry, and her second child with Martinez.
