She is best known for her roles as FBI Special AgentΒ Dana ScullyΒ in the sci-fi seriesΒ The X-FilesΒ (1993–2002; 2016–2018), Lily Bart in the drama filmΒ The House of Mirth (2000), DSIΒ Stella GibsonΒ in theΒ BBC/RTÉ crime drama seriesΒ The FallΒ (2013–2016), Jean Milburn in theΒ NetflixΒ comedy-drama seriesΒ Sex EducationΒ (2019–2023), andΒ Margaret Thatcher in theΒ fourth seasonΒ of the Netflix drama seriesΒ The CrownΒ (2020). She has won twoΒ Primetime Emmy Awards, twoΒ Golden Globe Awards, and fourΒ Screen Actors Guild Awards.
