Biography

Emily Jean "Emma" StoneΒ (born November 6, 1988) is an American actress and film producer. Her accoladesΒ include twoΒ Academy Awards, twoΒ British Academy Film Awards, twoΒ Golden Globe AwardsΒ and aΒ Volpi Cup. In 2017, she was theΒ world's highest-paid actressΒ and was named byΒ Time magazine as one of theΒ 100 most influential people in the world.

As a child in Arizona, Stone started acting in local theatre productions before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. As a teenager, she made her television debut in the reality showΒ In Search of the New Partridge Family (2004). After small television roles, she appeared in a string of successful comedy films, includingΒ SuperbadΒ (2007),Β ZombielandΒ (2009), andΒ Easy A (2010), which marked Stone's first leading role. Following this breakthrough, she starred in the romantic comedyΒ Crazy, Stupid, LoveΒ (2011) and the period dramaΒ The HelpΒ (2011). She gained wider recognition asΒ Gwen StacyΒ inΒ Marc Webb'sΒ Spider-ManΒ filmsΒ (2012–2014).

Stone cemented herΒ status as a leading ladyΒ by taking on more eclectic and dramatic roles. She earned nominations for theΒ Academy Award for Best Supporting ActressΒ for portraying a recovering drug addict in the surrealist dark comedyΒ Birdman (2014) andΒ Abigail HillΒ in the absurdist period filmΒ The FavouriteΒ (2018); the latter marked her first of many collaborations withΒ Yorgos Lanthimos. She won twoΒ Academy Awards for Best ActressΒ for portraying an aspiring actress in the romantic musicalΒ La La LandΒ (2016) and a resurrected suicide victim in Lanthimos'sΒ Poor ThingsΒ (2023); she was also nominated for theΒ Academy Award for Best PictureΒ for the latter. Stone also earned recognition for portraying tennis playerΒ Billie Jean KingΒ inΒ Battle of the SexesΒ (2017) and theΒ titular roleΒ inΒ CruellaΒ (2021). She has since collaborated twice more with Lanthimos, starring in the anthology filmΒ Kinds of KindnessΒ (2024) and the dark comedyΒ BugoniaΒ (2025); the latter earned her further nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress and Best Picture, making her the first woman to be nominated as both a producer and an actress in two different films.

OnΒ Broadway, Stone starred asΒ Sally BowlesΒ in a revival of the musicalΒ CabaretΒ (2014–2015). On television, she has led the dark comedy miniseriesΒ ManiacΒ (2018) andΒ The CurseΒ (2023). She and her husband,Β Dave McCary, founded the production companyΒ Fruit TreeΒ in 2020.
