Andrew Brion Hogan GoddardΒ (born February 26, 1975) is an American filmmaker most closely associated with the horror genre. He began his career writing episodes for the television showsΒ Buffy the Vampire Slayer,Β Angel,Β Alias, andΒ Lost. After moving into film screenwriting, he wroteΒ CloverfieldΒ (2008),Β World War ZΒ (2013), and twoΒ Andy WeirΒ adaptations: The MartianΒ (2015) andΒ Project Hail MaryΒ (2026). ForΒ The Martian, he was nominated for theΒ Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also directedΒ The Cabin in the WoodsΒ (2011) andΒ Bad Times at the El RoyaleΒ (2018).
Goddard created theΒ NetflixΒ seriesΒ Daredevil (2015β2018), part ofΒ the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He went on to direct several episodes ofΒ The Good Place. He served as an executive producer forΒ 10 Cloverfield LaneΒ (2016) andΒ The Cloverfield ParadoxΒ (2018), instalments in theΒ Cloverfield franchise.
