Andrew Brion Hogan GoddardΒ (born February 26, 1975) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer most closely associated with the horror genre. He began his career writing episodes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer,Β Angel,Β Alias, andΒ Lost. After moving into screenwriting in film, he wroteΒ CloverfieldΒ (2008),Β World War ZΒ (2013), andΒ The MartianΒ (2015), the latter earning him a nomination for theΒ Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2011, he made his directorial debut withΒ The Cabin in the Woods.
In 2015, Goddard created theΒ NetflixΒ seriesΒ Daredevil. Soon after, he directed several episodes ofΒ The Good Place. He served as an executive producer forΒ 10 Cloverfield LaneΒ (2016) andΒ The Cloverfield ParadoxΒ (2018), the next instalment in theΒ CloverfieldΒ franchise. It was announced in April 2024 that he would write and direct a new film inΒ The MatrixΒ franchise.
