Dominic Gerard Francis Eagleton WestΒ (born 15 October 1969) is an English actor, director, producer, and musician. He is best known for playingΒ Jimmy McNultyΒ inΒ HBO'sΒ The WireΒ (2002β2008) and Noah Solloway inΒ Showtime'sΒ The Affair (2014β2019), the latter of which earned him aΒ Golden Globe Award for Best Actor β Television Series DramaΒ nomination,Β Ebenezer Scrooge's nephew Fred inΒ A Christmas CarolΒ (1999), andΒ Charles, Prince of Wales, in theΒ NetflixΒ dramaΒ The CrownΒ (2022β2023), the latter of which earned him nominations for anotherΒ Golden Globe AwardΒ and aΒ Primetime Emmy Award.
West made his television debut in the 1998Β BBC medical dramaΒ Out of HoursΒ before appearing in the television filmsΒ A Christmas Carol,Β 28 DaysΒ withΒ Sandra BullockΒ in 2000, andΒ Nicholas Nickleby (2001). His breakthrough came with the role of Detective Jimmy McNulty in the seriesΒ The Wire. He then starred in the BBC seriesΒ The HourΒ (2011β2012), earning a Golden Globe Award nomination. He received aΒ BAFTA AwardΒ for his performance as the serial killerΒ Fred WestΒ in theΒ ITVΒ dramaΒ Appropriate AdultΒ (2011) and a nomination for his portrayal asΒ Richard BurtonΒ inΒ BBC Four'sΒ Burton & TaylorΒ (2013).Β He playedΒ Jean ValjeanΒ in the 2018 BBC miniseriesΒ adaptation of Les MisΓ©rables. He has since starred in theΒ NetflixΒ seriesΒ StatelessΒ (2020) and theΒ Amazon StudiosΒ The Pursuit of LoveΒ (2021).
