Brook MaurioΒ (previouslyΒ Busey-Hunt;Β nΓ©e Busey; born June 14, 1978), known professionally by theΒ pen nameΒ Diablo Cody, is an American writer and producer. She gained recognition for her candidΒ blogΒ and subsequent memoir,Β Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper (2005). Cody received critical acclaim for her screenwriting debut,Β JunoΒ (2007), which won both theΒ Academy AwardΒ and theΒ BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay.Β
She wrote, produced, and made herΒ directorial debutΒ with the comedy-drama filmΒ Paradise (2013).Β Cody has also written and produced the filmsΒ Jennifer's BodyΒ (2009),Β Young Adult (2011),Β Ricki and the FlashΒ (2015),Β TullyΒ (2018), andΒ Lisa FrankensteinΒ (2024).
Cody created, wrote, and produced theΒ Showtime comedy drama seriesΒ United States of Tara (2009β2011) and theΒ Amazon PrimeΒ seriesΒ One MississippiΒ (2015β2017). She made herΒ Broadway debut with theΒ Alanis MorissetteΒ musicalΒ Jagged Little Pill, winning theΒ Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. She has been a member of theΒ Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Writers' Branch, since 2008.
