David Oyetokunbo OyelowoΒ (/oΚΛjΙloΚwoΚ/Β oh-YEL-oh-woh;Β Yoruba pronunciation;Β born 1 April 1976) is aΒ BritishΒ actor, director and producer. His accolades include aΒ Critics' Choice Award, twoΒ NAACP Image Awards, and nominations for threeΒ Golden Globe Awards, twoΒ Primetime Emmy Awards, aΒ Screen Actors Guild Award, and aΒ BAFTA Award. In 2016, he was appointed as an officer of theΒ Order of the British EmpireΒ (OBE) for his services to drama.
Oyelowo rose to prominence for portrayingΒ Martin Luther King Jr.Β in the biographical drama SelmaΒ (2014) and Peter Snowden in theΒ HBOΒ filmΒ NightingaleΒ (2014), which garnered him critical acclaim.
