Biography

David BlassΒ is an AmericanΒ production designer andΒ art director.

For his work on theΒ JustifiedΒ television series, Blass was nominated for the 2012Β Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera SeriesΒ for theΒ JustifiedΒ television series, and also received nominations for theΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More)Β forΒ JustifiedΒ in 2014 and again in 2015 for theΒ ConstantineΒ television series.Β In 2015, he was nominated for the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for an Hour Contemporary Television SeriesΒ forΒ Justified.Β He has twice been published with cover stories inΒ Perspective Magazine,Β with an Oct/Nov 2009 article on his pre-visualization of the final shot for theΒ ERΒ television series, and February/March 2012 featuring an article on his production design of theΒ JustifiedΒ series. For his work accurately portraying the State of Kentucky on the Television programΒ Justified,Β he was awarded the honour of "Kentucky ColonelΒ in 2011 by GovernorΒ Steven Beshear.

He is a member of theΒ Art Directors GuildΒ and theΒ Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Blass grew up inΒ Ashland, MassachusettsΒ and graduated from Β Ashland High School, where he wrote and directed his first film,Β A SADD Story, for "Students Against Drunk Driving" – which won aΒ Reader's DigestΒ contest.Β He also playedΒ soccerΒ andΒ baseballΒ while at Ashland High.Β His film achievement in high school led to him receiving a scholarship to attend Emerson CollegeΒ inΒ Boston, where heΒ majoredΒ in film production.Β He then moved toΒ CaliforniaΒ and began working in the film and television industry – initially working underΒ Roger Corman.
