Daniel Christopher GilroyΒ (born June 24, 1959) is an American screenwriter and film director. He is best known for writing and directingΒ NightcrawlerΒ (2014), for which he won Best Screenplay at theΒ 30th Independent Spirit Awards and was nominated forΒ Best Original ScreenplayΒ at theΒ 87th Academy Awards. His other screenwriting credits includeΒ FreejackΒ (1992),Β Two for the MoneyΒ (2005),Β The FallΒ (2006),Β Real SteelΒ (2011), andΒ The Bourne LegacyΒ (2012)βthe last in collaboration with his brotherΒ Tony Gilroy. His wife,Β Rene Russo, has also been his frequent collaborator since the two met in 1992 and married later that year.
