Christopher O'DowdΒ (born 9 October 1979) is an Irish actor and comedian. He received wide attention asΒ Roy Brenneman, one of the lead characters in theΒ Channel 4Β comedyΒ The IT Crowd, which ran for four series from 2006 to 2010. He has starred in films includingΒ Gulliver's TravelsΒ (2010),Β Bridesmaids,Β Friends with Kids (2011),Β Cuban FuryΒ (2014),Β Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar ChildrenΒ (2016) andΒ The Cloverfield ParadoxΒ (2018). He created and starred in theΒ Sky 1Β television seriesΒ Moone Boy, which aired from 2012 to 2015 and brought himΒ Irish Film and Television AwardΒ nominations for acting, writing and directing.
Since 2017, he has appeared asΒ Miles DalyΒ in theΒ EpixΒ comedy seriesΒ Get Shorty. He had a recurring role in the comedy-drama seriesΒ Girls. His performance in the British comedy TV seriesΒ State of the UnionΒ won him aΒ Primetime Emmy Award. He made hisΒ BroadwayΒ debut in the play adaptation ofΒ Of Mice and MenΒ in 2014, for which he was nominated for aΒ Tony Award. In 2020, he was listed as #39 onΒ The Irish TimesΒ list of Ireland's greatest film actors.
