Catherine Martin LuhrmannΒ ACΒ (born 26 January 1965) is an AustralianΒ costume designer,Β production designer,Β set designer, and film producer, best known for her frequent collaborations with directorΒ Baz Luhrmann. She has received numerous accolades, including fourΒ Academy Awards, sixΒ BAFTA Awards, and aΒ Tony Award. Martin was appointed aΒ Companion of the Order of AustraliaΒ in 2025.
Martin came to international prominence for providing both the costumes and production design forΒ Strictly BallroomΒ (1992), Luhrmann's feature directorial debut, which later became the first instalment of the "Red Curtain Trilogy". She won both theΒ Academy Award for Best Costume Designand theΒ Academy Award for Best Production DesignΒ for her work on Curtain's final chapterΒ Moulin Rouge!Β (2001). Martin became just the second woman toΒ win multiple Oscars in a single yearΒ (afterΒ Edith Head) and the first to do so twice, winning the same two categories forΒ The Great GatsbyΒ (2013). She was also Oscar-nominated forΒ Romeo + JulietΒ (1996),Β Australia (2008), andΒ ElvisΒ (2022). Having won four awards out of nine nominations, she holds theΒ record for the mostΒ OscarΒ wins of any Australian.
