Casey AffleckΒ (bornΒ Caleb Casey McGuire Affleck-Boldt; August 12, 1975) is an American actor. He receivesΒ various accolades, including anΒ Academy Award, aΒ British Academy Film Award, and aΒ Golden Globe Award. The younger brother of actorΒ Ben Affleck, he began his career as a child actor, appearing in theΒ PBS television filmΒ Lemon SkyΒ (1988). He later appeared in threeΒ Gus Van SantΒ films:Β To Die For (1995),Β Good Will HuntingΒ (1997),Β GerryΒ (2002), and inΒ Steven Soderbergh'sΒ Ocean's film series (2001β2007). His first role was inΒ Steve Buscemi's independent comedy-dramaΒ Lonesome JimΒ (2006).
Affleck's breakthrough came in 2007 when he was nominated for theΒ Academy Award for Best Supporting ActorΒ for his performance asΒ Robert FordΒ in the Western dramaΒ The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert FordΒ and starred in his brother's crime dramaΒ Gone Baby Gone. In 2010, he directed the mockumentaryΒ I'm Still Here. He went on to appear inΒ Tower Heist (2011),Β ParaNormanΒ (2012), andΒ Interstellar (2014), and he received praise for his performance as an outlaw inΒ Ain't Them Bodies SaintsΒ (2013).
In 2016, Affleck starred in the dramaΒ Manchester by the Sea, in which his performance as a grieving man earned him theΒ Academy Award for Best Actor. He has since starred in the dramasΒ A Ghost StoryΒ (2017) andΒ The Old Man & the GunΒ (2018) and asΒ Boris PashΒ in the biographical thrillerΒ OppenheimerΒ (2023), his highest-grossing release.
