William Francis NighyΒ (/naΙͺ/;Β born 12 December 1949) is a British actor. Known forΒ his work on stage and screen, he has receivedΒ various accolades, including twoΒ BAFTA AwardsΒ and aΒ Golden Globe Award, in addition to nominations for anΒ Academy Award, aΒ Tony Award, aΒ Laurence Olivier AwardΒ and twoΒ Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Nighy started his career with theΒ Everyman Theatre, Liverpool, and made his London debut with theΒ Royal National Theatre, starting withΒ The Illuminatus!Β in 1977. He gained acclaim for his roles inΒ David Hare'sΒ PravdaΒ in 1985,Β Harold Pinter'sΒ BetrayalΒ in 1991,Β Tom Stoppard'sΒ Arcadia in 1993, andΒ Anton Chekhov'sΒ The SeagullΒ in 1994.
