Anna Cooke KendrickΒ (born August 9, 1985) is an American actress. Known for playing upbeat and endearing characters in comedies and musicals,Β her accoladesΒ include nominations for anΒ Academy Award, aΒ Primetime Emmy Award, and aΒ Tony Award.
Kendrick's first starring role was in the 1998Β BroadwayΒ musicalΒ High Society, for which she earned a Β Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She made her film debut in the musical comedyΒ CampΒ (2003) and had a supporting role inΒ The Twilight Saga (2008β2011). She achieved wider recognition for her role in the comedy-drama filmΒ Up in the AirΒ (2009), which earned her anΒ Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, as well as for her starring role in theΒ Pitch PerfectΒ film seriesΒ (2012β2017).
She starred in the comediesΒ Scott Pilgrim vs. the WorldΒ (2010) andΒ 50/50Β (2011), the crime dramaΒ End of WatchΒ (2012), the musicalΒ Into the Woods (2014), the thrillersΒ The AccountantΒ (2016) andΒ A Simple FavorΒ (2018), and the fantasy comedyΒ NoelleΒ (2019). She has voiced the lead role in the animated musicals of theΒ TrollsΒ film franchise since 2016. She starred in the short-form comedy seriesΒ DummyΒ (2020), for which she received a nomination for aΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress. She made her directorial debut with the self-starring thrillerΒ Woman of the HourΒ (2023).
Kendrick sang on soundtracks for some of her films, including the single "Cups" in 2012, and at events such as theΒ 2013 Kennedy Centre Honours and theΒ 2015 Academy Awards. Her memoir,Β Scrappy Little Nobody, was published in 2016.
