Andrew Clement SerkisΒ (born 20 April 1964) is an English actor and filmmaker. Serkis's film work in motion capture has been critically acclaimed.Β He has received anΒ Empire AwardΒ and twoΒ Saturn AwardsΒ for hisΒ motion-capture acting. He earned aΒ BAFTAΒ and aΒ Golden GlobeΒ nomination for his portrayal of serial killerΒ Ian BradyΒ in the British television filmΒ LongfordΒ (2006). He was nominated for aΒ BAFTA for his portrayal of new wave and punk rock musicianΒ Ian DuryΒ in the biopicΒ Sex & Drugs & Rock & RollΒ (2010). In 2020, Serkis received the BAFTA Award forΒ Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.Β In 2021, he won aΒ Daytime Emmy AwardΒ forΒ The Letter for the KingΒ (2020).
Serkis portrayedΒ Ulysses KlaueΒ in theΒ Marvel Cinematic UniverseΒ (MCU) filmsΒ Avengers: Age of UltronΒ (2015) andΒ Black PantherΒ (2018), as well as theΒ Disney+Β seriesΒ What If...?Β (2021). He also playedΒ Alfred PennyworthΒ inΒ The BatmanΒ (2022). Serkis has his own production company and motion-capture workshop,Β The Imaginarium, in London, which he used forΒ Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. He made his directorial debut with Imaginarium's 2017 filmΒ BreatheΒ and also directedΒ Venom: Let There Be CarnageΒ (2021).
