Alfonso CuarΓ³n OrozcoΒ (US:Β /kwΙΛΛroΚn/kwar-OHN;Β Spanish:Β [alΛfonsoΒ kwaΛΙΎon]; born 28 November 1961) is a Mexican filmmaker. His accolades include fourΒ Academy Awards, sevenΒ BAFTA Awards, and threeΒ Golden Globe Awards.
CuarΓ³n made his feature film debut with the romantic comedyΒ SΓ³lo con tu pareja (1991) and directed the film adaptationsΒ A Little PrincessΒ (1995) andΒ Great ExpectationsΒ (1998). His breakthrough came with the coming-of-age filmΒ Y tu mamΓ‘ tambiΓ©nΒ (2001), which earned him a nomination for theΒ Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He gained greater prominence for directing the fantasy filmΒ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanΒ (2004), the dystopian dramaΒ Children of Men (2006), the science fiction dramaΒ Gravity (2013), and the semi-autobiographical dramaΒ RomaΒ (2018). The latter two won himΒ Academy Awards for Best Director. He also wonΒ Best Film EditingΒ forΒ GravityΒ andΒ Best CinematographyΒ forΒ Roma.
